Framing
Joe makes custom frames for modern and contemporary art, using archival methods and locally sourced materials including walnut, maple and white oak. He has been making wood frames since 2005.
Joe's frames are joined with raw mouldings and then custom finished. This style of framing is known as closed corner framing, where the frame is joined and then finished one at a time. Finishing frames after they’re joined creates much stronger, more durable joinery. The joints are also more even since they can be sanded, and cleaner since the finish is continuous over the joint.
Special attention is giving to each work when considering profile, mounting style, color and border widths. Only 100% archival materials are used for matting, backing and mounting of artwork. Glazing options include regular framing grade, UV, reflection control, and UV with reflection control.
